Two Men And A Girl
Once upon a time there lived a young merchant who had a lovely daughter. She was called, Dina. Dina’s mother had died when she was the age of 5. But the merchant loved his daughter more than himself, so Dina was never sad. But the merchant often had to make long journeys, so they kept a little parrot to keep Dina happy when the merchant was away. The little parrot loved Dina, and Dina loved him, too. One day, a prince came to seek Dina in marriage.
Since the prince was so handsome, Dina agreed to marry him. A date was fixed for the wedding the next day. The king and queen, the mother and father of the prince, got ready for the wedding. The merchant got ready, too. On the day of the wedding, Dina went to the parrot to speak to him for the last time. The parrot said, “Dina, this is not the last time we will meet.” “You must take me with you to the palace.” Just then, a governor knocked at the door. At this time, Dina’s father was out in the market to buy a new dress for his daughter. So Dina opened the door.
The governor came in. At first, Dina was afraid, for she thought that he had come for his fees. But she soon found out that the governor wanted to marry her. “I am about to be married to a prince,” Dina said. The governor angrily left the house. He swore an oath saying that he would marry Dina somehow. Meanwhile, the merchant returned home. But Dina did not say anything about the governor’s visit. After some time, the prince married Dina. Before the couple left, Dina took the parrot out of his cage and let him perch on her right hand. Back at the palace, Dina put the parrot in a small, golden cage. For some time, the prince and Dina lived happily together. Dina had a baby girl who was called, Kina.
When Kina was about the age of 1, the prince had to go on a very important journey. It would take the prince 3 months to come back. The next day, the prince packed some things and left. For the first 2 months, everything went fine. In the beginning of the 3rd month, Dina took Kina for a walk in the royal gardens. It was a hot summer day, so Dina sat down under a tree. First, she rocked Kina to sleep. Then Dina fell fast asleep, too. Suddenly, the governor came out of the bushes. He seized Kina while she was still asleep. Then he carried little baby Kina to his own house. When Kina woke up, she began to cry.
Meanwhile, when Dina woke up, she was startled. She could not find Kina anywhere. Sadly, Dina went back to the palace and told the parrot what had happened. “I cannot help you find her now, but I can tell you that some time in your life you will meet her,” said the parrot. Meanwhile, after the governor captured Kina, he felt like he had taken revenge. So he began to treat Kina as his own child. Kina grew up to be a very beautiful woman. But she was too young to understand that her foster father had taken her away from her real mother and father. She did not know that she was a princess.
Back at the palace, the prince returned from his journey. He too, was very sad when he heard what had happened. One day, the governor died. Kina then went to an old woman to care for her. This old woman had a very handsome and clever son. Soon, Kina and the old woman’s son were married. The son was called, Ando. Ando and Kina loved each other very much. One day, the old woman died. Kina and Ando moved to a new house after the old woman’s funeral.
There they lived peacefully. For 2 years, Kina and Ando lived happily. Then one day, some soldiers from another country attacked their country. Soon, a big battle had begun. In the battle, Kina and Ando’s country lost. The soldiers from the other country now took over Kina and Ando’s country. So the very next day, Kina and Ando moved to the prince’s kingdom. Now this was the same prince who was Dina’s husband. After so many years, the old king and queen had died, and Dina and the prince became king and queen. But no one knew that Ando and Kina were related to the king and queen. Suddenly, the little parrot said to Dina, “Your daughter and her husband have come to this kingdom.” Dina quickly told the king what the parrot had said. Kina and Ando were soon found, and they all lived happily ever after. THE END
