The Cream Girl
Once upon a time, there lived a nobleman and his wife. The nobleman was named Ricsan and his wife was named Lawa. Ricsan and Lawa lived peacefully in a big house in the country of Mexico. They had almost everything, a big house, fine clothes, and yummy food. But one thing was missing, and that was a child. Ricsan and Lawa were very sad because they didn’t have a child. Lawa and Ricsan loved little children, but they had none.
One day, Lawa was putting cream on her body when she began to feel bored. So she took some soft cream and shaped it into a tiny girl. She waited until it turned hard, and then she decorated the cream doll. Then she began to play with the fake girl. She wished it would come to life. After playing a whole lot, she placed the cream doll in a little bookshelf and hurried off. When Lawa came back to play with the cream doll, it had disappeared!
Suddenly, a soft glow came from the bookshelf. And there, in a tiny cradle, lay a beautiful baby girl! The cream doll had come to life! Lawa took the baby girl out of the cradle and placed her in a soft bed. Soon the baby fell asleep. Lawa looked after the sleeping baby. When Ricsan came back from his cases, the girl awoke and shouted out, “Daddy!” She wriggled her tiny arms around.
Ricsan was surprised to find a baby girl in the house. Then Lawa explained everything. Now Lawa and Ricsan had everything they could possibly wish for. They were very happy. They named the baby girl “Creamy,” for she was born out of the cream. Creamy grew up to be very beautiful. Mexico was the perfect place for Creamy to grow up.
When Creamy was ready to be married, many knights and princes came to seek her in marriage. Finally, Creamy found a man whom she loved best. His name was Dinn. Creamy loved Dinn very much because he was kind and handsome. Dinn was a great prince of another kingdom. His father, a king, was named Phelip. Dinn was in his kingdom. So Creamy had to call him and tell him to come to her kingdom. She wrote a letter saying, “Dear Dinn,
Please come visit me in my kingdom.” “I want to meet you.” “Can we be married?” “Love, Creamy.” Creamy sent one of her trusted messangers with the letter.
The messanger was called Tiro. Tiro carried the letter all the way to Dinn’s palace. But no one from the royal family was home. Tiro soon found a serving maid who asked to be given the letter. Tiro refused, for the letter was to go into the hands of either Dinn or Phelip. But the maid said that all of them had gone out and would not come back until three months.
She was really lying, for they would be back in an hour. But the maid knew that a girl named Creamy loved Dinn. It was probably her who had written the letter. Finally Tiro agreed to give the letter to the maid. Then Tiro left. The maid was called Harnora, and she hated her master Dinn. She wanted to make sure that Dinn couldn’t get married. Harnora carried the letter to her room and read it. Then she wrote back, “Dear Creamy,
Thank you for the invitation.” “I, too, have been wanting to marry you.” “I will ask my father Phelip to let me marry you.” “Just wait for three more months.” “Love, Dinn.” Then Harnora sent the letter to Creamy.
When Dinn and Phelip came back, Harnora pretended as if nothing had happened. She had hidden the letter that Creamy had written. After a few weeks, Creamy received the letter. She had no idea that it was from Harnora. She thought that Dinn and received her letter and had written back to her. She read the letter joyfully, thinking all the time that Dinn himself had written it.
Preperations were made for the arrival of Dinn. Many weeks passed, but there was no sign of Dinn and his father. At last, Creamy built herself a small bag in which she put some of her belongings. Then she asked her father Ricsan if she could go to Dinn’s palace and find him. At first Lawa and Ricsan refused, but at last they had to agree. Creamy refused to take any servants with her. Taking her bag, she set off to find Dinn.
As she was traveling, she met an old man. The old man stared at her for a few moments, for she was too beautiful to describe. Then he quickly ran away. The old man told about the beautiful girl to his neighbors. They told their friends, and soon all the people of the kingdom knew about her. Now the news soon reached the ears of Harnora, who at once began to plot against Creamy.
She then called one of her evil servants and whispered a plan into his ear. Quickly, the servant hurried over to find Creamy. He soon found her, and he began to praise her beauty. Creamy was pleased. She agreed to go for a walk with him in a rosebush garden. As they were walked past a stream, the servant pushed Creamy into the water. He thought Creamy was dead. He hurried back to Harnora and told her that Creamy was gone. Meanwhile, Creamy pushed and shoved with all her might until she swam up to the surface of the stream.
There she began to call for help. A man and his wife lived near the stream, and they heard Creamy’s cry for help. They ran towards the stream, carrying a big, thick rope. They went to where Creamy was and said, “We’ll help you.” “Just hold on to this rope and we’ll pull you out.” Hearing these words, Creamy pushed and pushed with all her might until she was able to grab the rope. Then the man and his wife pulled with all their might until Creamy was out of the water. Creamy thanked them over and over again for saving her life.
Since Creamy’s clothes were wet and she was shivering, the man and his wife took pity on her and led her into their house. There they dried Creamy with a soft towel and brought her some new clothes. Creamy was cold, and she had a bad fever. The couple put her to bed and made sure she was comfortable. Then they brought her a cup of hot tea to make her feel better. Soon Creamy was fast asleep. Since Creamy was sleeping in their bed, the kind couple slept on a mat. In the morning, Creamy wa feeling much better.
She thanked the kind couple for helping her once again. Now that she was feeling better, the couple asked Creamy why she was in the cold water of the stream. Creamy told them her story, of how she had come to find a prince named Dinn and had cruelly been pushed inside the stream by the servant of an old, mean slave maiden, Harnora. The couple cursed Harnora in their minds and then gently said to Creamy, “You are welcome to stay here with us in our cozy home.” “Once things get better, you can set off again to find Prince Dinn.”
Creamy gladly agreed. Since the kind couple were not blessed with a child, Creamy was like a gentle daughter to them. And since Creamy was completely lost, the man and his wife were like parents to her. One fine summer day, Creamy went outside to pick berries. Her basket accidently dropped and the berries flew all over the place. Now it happened so that at this very moment Prince Dinn and King Phelip were hunting together with some of their courtiers. Prince Dinn’s horse accidently stepped on one of the berries and juice came pouring out all over the forest floor. Dinn’s horse neighed loudly. Dinn jumped off his horse to see what was the matter.
And what did he see? Berries all over the ground. Phelip hurried over to Dinn. Dinn asked his father to stay where he was and look after the horses. Then Prince Dinn went further into the forest where Creamy was standing. “How lovely you look!” exclaimed Dinn, who had never seen so beautiful a maiden. Creamy had seen Prince Dinn before, but after such a long time no one would remember anything. Anyway, Creamy did like him.
She was just about to tell him that he was worthy enough to marry her, but then she remembered Dinn. She thought to herself, “How can I even speak to a man whom I have never met?” “And, I was in love with a man named Dinn, so speaking to another man of marriage is impossible!” So Creamy quickly ran away. Dinn sadly returned to Phelip and the rest. Meanwhile, Creamy never realized that the very man she had just met was actually Prince Dinn himself. However, Creamy could not resist telling her foster-parents about the handsome man she had met in the forest.
The couple told Creamy to marry him, but Creamy still said that the only man she would marry would be Dinn. The couple then said, “Perhaps it is Prince Dinn himself, but since so many months have passed you do not recognize him.” Creamy thought about what they said for a while, and then she began to remember Dinn’s face. Now Creamy realized that the man she had met was Dinn!
She quickly packed some things and hurried off to find her love. After traveling for many days, Creamy finally reached a kingdom which she believed to be King Phelip’s kingdom. She went to the royal palace and asked to be taken in by the royal guards. The chief of the guards asked Creamy why she wanted to enter. Creamy said, “I wish to meet the prince.” “He has something important for me to see.” “Please let me in.” The guards agreed. They announced that a maiden named Creamy wished to meet the royal prince. Prince Dinn was called by King Phelip and was led to Creamy. Creamy, who recognized him at once, asked to speak to him in private. King Phelip agreed. As soon as Dinn looked into the soft eyes of Creamy, he knew she was the very girl whom he had met in the forest.
Creamy explained everything, of how she wrote him a letter and the mean maiden Harnora had hidden the letter and had written back to her in his place. Then she explained everything else. Prince Dinn took Creamy’s hand and soon their marriage was fixed. As soon as they were married, Ricsan and Lawa, who thought Creamy was dead, were called to live in the palace with their daughter and her new husband. How happy they were to discover that their daughter was alive and well and had been married to a great prince.
As for the kind couple, they, too, were called in by King Phelip himself to live in the palace. And that mean old maiden Harnora was banished from the kingdom and was never seen again.
